A Day Out

Newsletter #47

George talks…

Sport’s first function is entertainment.

High stakes, high tension, watching the best take on the best.

We are in May. The very best of global sport is in action from one weekend to the next. I’ve been glued to F1, golf, rugby, football, hurling and of course horse racing.

I noticed one key differentiator when comparing the offerings of the different sports over the last few weekends.

The access that horse racing gives the casual consumer or the avid enthusiast, is second to no other.

Unlike other sports, with horse racing you can have access to the best racing establishments, stable yards, stud farms and enjoy their magical atmosphere.

There really are no closed doors.

The days out behind the scenes are as enjoyable as the races for some.

Now Covid is in the rear-view mirror, we were excited to invite owners and prospective owners to come meet us and see what goes into breeding, raising and training racehorses.

Over the month of May we welcomed our Irish and UK owners to a day out behind the scenes of horse racing.

We kicked off with a small group of Irish based owners, both our fillies are in pre – training with Brian O’Connell in Kilkenny, Ireland. We took owners to see them both cantering and then for a full show thereafter in the yard.

Selfies were included!

From there we had coffee and took the short journey to Ballylinch Stud in Kilkenny to meet general manager, Adrian Sherry.

I have been on tours of studfarms in USA, UK, Ireland and France.

I have never experienced a more engaging and entertaining tour of a stud farm in my life. The stories, history and now hearing how future focussed they are was amazing.

Charlie talks…

Basked in sunshine, Newmarket was glorious last weekend.

A group of us gathered from 8.30 am at Warren Hill, which was buzzing with activity.

We were lucky to see plenty of horses out exercising on the heath.

Our first yard visit, was to the stables of George Boughey and while sadly he was away in France overseeing Cachet, we managed to see one of his stable stars, Oscula enjoying a pick of grass.

After a quick coffee we headed back across to the other side of Newmarket to Machell Place Stables to meet Kevin Philippart De Foy.

Kevin filling us in on his Royal Ascot plans!

Kevin was in great form after his big double last weekend and is really looking forward to getting our Sioux Nation filly over to his yard soon.

Next up was the National stud where Jamie Jackson give us a quick tour around the stud and showed us some of their stallions and young stock.

3 day old Masar foal the last of 91 foals born at the National Stud this year

Stallion star Time Test groomed immaculately for one of his last few dates of the year

Finally to finish up a handful of us headed racing at Newmarket.

Where’s the Season now?

We are really in the thick of the flat racing season now. This weekend the last of the Guineas meetings will be held at The Curragh.

Native Trail completed a rare Guineas hatrick for the Godolphin blue yesterday.

The 1000 Guineas is today, in a race which looks wide open.

We had Royal Ascot trials at Naas last week in Ireland.

Any two year old that looks above average is now going into the notebooks for their respective Royal Ascot race.

We have been thinking of organising a Royal Ascot preview night in London before the big week, would that be something you guys would enjoy?

Send us a reply to this email with your thoughts.

Sales Scene

The breeze up sales concluded last week at Tattersalls Ireland.

We were unlucky not to pick up one during the sale. We were just one or two bids away on anything we really liked that jumped through our hoops.

We will now turn our attention to the mid summer horse in training sales in July.

Changes

We are working on some really cool new ideas for the syndicate that we will announce in the coming days. Keep an eye on your emails during the week.

Cheers,

George
