Change is the only Constant

Newsletter #47

George talks…

Change is the only constant.

I did mention on the last newsletter that we were working on some new and interesting developments with the syndicate.

Change of Scenery for our 2 Year Olds

On the theme of change, we gave owners the exciting news earlier in the week that both our fillies are now in Newmarket, in isolation yards for their respective trainers, ready to go into full training hopefully in the next few days.

We would like to thank Brian O’Connell of Chasefield Stables in Kilkenny, Ireland for the fantastic job he did pre-training them both. He certainly built on the foundation that Clare Manning had laid as yearlings.

After a little relaxation and recouping from their journey from Ireland, the fillies will begin a trotting programme with a view to full cantering in the coming days.

This is where the journey really starts to turn up notch after notch.

The horses posses a foundation of fitness now, they haven’t been pushed very hard. They will start getting the screw turned with their trainers over the next 6 weeks and from there we will get to understand what we have got under the bonnet.

Holy Roman Emperor

Only last week we re-entered the Holy Roman Emperor filly at the May forfeit stage for the Tattersalls Ireland Sales race in September. This will be the target that George will have in his mind with our filly.

Last year there was a very small field in the race and nearly every runner received some prizemoney. Worth €300,000 this is a lucrative pot and one we should get a decent weight allowance in because of our low auction price.

Our filly is still very raw, but she is building condition every week I see her. She is coming to hand with the summer sunshine on her back and we believe when she enters full training with George she will blossom.

This is an opportune time for anybody on the fence to get involved. The filly has been through the hoops of pre training, has landed at her trainer’s yard and will be available for viewing this weekend in Newmarket.

A Saturday morning away to see your horse gallop, the anticipation of her first race, this is where the fun starts to build.

Send us an email if you want to come and see her at George Boughey’s yard.

You can view shares available in the filly here.

Sioux Nation

Our program with the Sioux Nation filly is more of the same. She is seriously exciting.

She was a little further behind in her fitness compared to the HRE but has taken up the slack in the last few weeks.

This filly will come to hand very quickly and we feel once her trainer, Kevin Philippart De Foy, gets a gauge of her she will be hitting a race track in the near future.

If you are looking for some action on a racecourse in the next 6 weeks this is an interesting filly, her half brother by Starspangledbanner was a seriously exciting 2 year old before suffering a freak training accident where he died.

The Scat Daddy / Exceed and Excel breeding axis is another pedigree tick.

One which got a flurry of early investors onto this filly.

I’m bored writing about the impressive winners the sire has been having, it’s pleasing to see that Sioux Nation’s most impressive winners thus far have been fillies, he even has a fancied runner in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot.

If you have been watching Sioux Nations impressive streak of 2 year old successes and would like to jump on the train, study shares in our filly here.

Winds of Change

One thing I like to do regularly with all owners involved with us, is to give them a call.

After lengthy discussions on how we could improve and expand our offering as a syndicate, we have decided to make a few changes.

1)     We will be starting a National hunt syndicate

The single most common question I receive from people is.

Would you do a national hunt syndicate?

All three of us grew up as breeders of jumps horses.

We knew who won the bumper at Thurles on a winter’s Thursday.

People are mesmorised by the spectacle of a jumps race in full flow.

We want to give people a piece of the action.

As a result, we are heading to the HIT sales, to pick up an ex flat horse who looks the type to jump a hurdle.

A horse who could mix it over jumps and on the flat. Watch this space…

2)     We will be offering lease shares syndicates

Horse racing is not black and red on a spreadsheet.

Horse racing is more than that. People want a piece of the action. They want to get the buzz.

Lease shares can achieve that for owners for a fraction of the cost of equity shares.

Another problem is solved for the breeder.

Many breeders can’t sell stock that could be brillliant racehorses. Horses who haven’t got the sexy pedigrees or maybe have slight conformation faults.

Think of these horses like the unlikely athlete that was in your class in school, horses are the same, sometimes unlikely

Syndicates like us can lease these horses and give them a chance to run.

Owner’s get the fun out of racing the horse, getting a winner for a fraction of the outlay.

The breeder then gets a horse back that’s more valuable now than before.

We have a couple of options to lease horses in the pipeline. The details of which we will announce in the coming weeks.

Lease shares will be cheaper than equity shares. It will be a once off payment for the duration of the lease.

Many breeders are subscribed to this newsletter, if you have a filly, please send us an email if you are interested in leasing to race.

We have a strict criteria for taking a filly to lease. But please send us a video of the filly walking and trotting and a copy of its pedigree.

If we like what we see we will come out and do an inspection and take it from there.

With Change comes Action

With these changes to our model in mind.

We are heading all guns blazing to the Ascot May sale.

We have a shortlist of 3 horses to judge for the sale.

Keep an eye on your email over the weekend.

Cheers,

George

P.S.
