George talks…BBT Digest

Here are some interesting pieces we have come across this week.

One of the best racing documentaries we’ve seen..

In light of the Panarama documentary we have all heard about, I want to highlight a true reflection of the industry we love. Bloodstock, racing and horses are a way of life. Enjoy!

Racing Iterations

An intriguing piece on how we can make racing more digestible to new consumers. Do you agree with the article? Anything you would add? Let us know, we reply to all emails!

Mini Podcast with Joseph O’Brien

Listen to this cool mini podcast series from Thoroughbred Tale’s, Sally Ann Grassick. Each week a guest takes their platform behind the scenes producing content from every aspect of the industry such as farriers, jockeys, trainers and many more.

In light of our own Medal of Glory at The Curragh last week, be sure to hear what Joseph has to say about taking horses away for their work.

Thomas talks…People in Racing with BBT Owner Tim Hare

This week we decided to talk to one of our syndicate members Tim Hare. Tim owns a share in Medal of Glory and chatted to us about how he found his love of horse racing.

Tell us about Tim?

Born in Belfast but grew up in Blackburn.  From a family of race enthusiasts.  Always dreamed of owning (part ownership) of a race horse but like many never thought it was in reach.

Charlie talks…Weekend Racing

The King George at Ascot is the highlight this weekend and a while a small field it looks a scintillating contest.

Love is the current short priced favourite and rightly so she ticks plenty of boxes for this contest and currently has ground conditions in her favour. However she has to concede weight to the three year olds Adayar and Lone Eagle, this will be a difficult task. Adayar was very impressive in winning the Derby and the form has been boosted since with Hurricane Lane coming out and beating Lone Eagle in the Irish equivalent. Strictly on that form Lone Eagle should find it difficult to beat Adayar however my feeling is Hurricane Lane didn't give his true running at Epsom (pulled shoes). This is backed up by the fact that he finished well ahead of Mojo Star in the Irish Derby and was behind him at Epsom. On that basis I believe Lone Eagle is the one to take from the classic generation and at 5/1 currently looks overpriced to me. Maybe not a race to get too heavily involved in and just to enjoy.

Kimifive is an interesting runner in the 7 furlong heritage handicap at 3pm. Last year he was runner up in the Stewards Cup at Goodwood. He is currently entered in that race next Saturday but looks like he will struggle to get a run as he is near the bottom of the weights. My guess is that he is running here to try and win or at the very least to go close to rise in the weights to get in next week. Currently he is priced at 25/1 for this Saturday’s race and might be worth supporting each way.

Elsewhere at Ascot in the closing 7 furlong lady riders handicap I thought Vasco Da Gama looked an interesting runner for the Gay Kelleway yard. She has booked top female rider Serena Brotheron and on his debut third for the yard looks interesting now back on good ground.

In Ireland the action is diluted slightly as everyone readies their charges for the Galway festival next week. However trainer Jack Davidson has been complementary recently on a filly called Sally Golightly and she makes her debut in the opening 7 furlong maiden at Gowran Park on Saturday and might be worth supporting at likely big odds.

Horses to Follow:

Lone Eagle - King George 3.35 pm - Ascot Saturday

Kimifive - 3.00 pm - Ascot Saturday

Vasco Da Gama - 4.45 pm Ascot Saturday

Sally Golightly - 1.40 Gowran Park Sunday
