Here are some interesting pieces we have come across this week.

What I have been watching…..Racing at Saratoga Springs

I had the privilege of going racing here back in 2016. A wealthy suburb of New York, the buzz here for their annual racing season is incomparable. The New York Racing Association are streaming the racing live on Youtube where racing is on throughout the week. Sit back for an evening and enjoy. The maidens are full of quality, a lot of the big stables ready their best 2 year olds for this meeting, you may unearth a Breeders Cup winner here!

Watch the stream here.

Are group 1 races too easy to win today?

According to the maths the pattern has ballooned, field sizes have shrunk and many of our top tier races have suffered for quality. What can we do about this?

Brownsbarn Thoroughbred’s Colours

We received our set of silks this week in anticipation of Medal of Glory running in the final round of barrier trials next week at Dundalk. Let’s hope they are lucky for our owners, at the very least they will be distinctive on the track! Watch out for the red cap!

Barrier trials are a new initiative. Resembling a mock race without the betting but with all the other experiential elements for our filly’s education. Medal of Glory has been working well at home and this last learning experience will polish for her first foray on the track.

Charlie talks…Weekend Racing

Another weekend where the racing action looks ordinary enough in the UK and Ireland. The main group action comes from Deauville in France which hosts the Group 1 Prix Jacques le Marois on Sunday.

Can Palace Pier do it again this year?

Can Palace Pier do it again this year?

This is always an exciting contest and fingers crossed Poetic Flare, Palace Pier and Alpine Star all take their chance. Strictly on last years run Alpine Star will find it difficult to overturn the form with Palace Pier. Poetic Flare has to put his Goodwood disappointment behind him but time might show that giving weight to Alcohol Free wasn’t such a bad effort on ground he wasn’t in love with. As long as the ground stays on the good side I think he can strike again.

The Curragh hosts an eight race card on Friday with some competitive looking contests. Looking through the entries local trainer Tracey Collins has three runners Livingstone Range,  Manwal and Strange Times stood out as solid chances in their respective contests.
