George talks…

The end of season championship finale is upon us. British Champions Day has been on the lips of everyone all week.

It’s been a long season for these horses, the racing season ebbs and flows from the Guineas trials in April , the Classics, Royal Ascot, the summer festivals, right through to today at Ascot. And, yes I’m talking solely about Britain here.

Today we are treated to a six race card at Ascot, four Group 1 races, a Group 2 and a competitive handicap.

Then add the sparkle of one of the world’s highest rated horses, Baaeed. We are in for a magic day.

We will stick to the topic of magic and world’s greatest horses. Sky Sports Racing brought out a really cool video, Frankel’s Last Dance, it’s 10 years since he last graced the racecourse.

Watch the video here.

100 Up

George Boughey, the trainer of our filly ATTRAZIONE, hit a major coup already this year with Cachet delivering his first Classic in May. The quality has always been in the yard. But George has reached another incredible milestone this week.

One of quantity.

The master of Saffron House stables trained his 100th winner of 2022 this week, an incredible achievement considering he hasn’t the numbers other trainers have at their disposal.

This will not be the case in the future.

Congratulations George from all of us at Brownsbarn.

Yearling Bonanza

While people are surprised at the huge sums of money being exchanged at the Tattersalls October yearling sales, I’m not one bit surprised.

Horse racing is a luxury product, even more especially so when you get closer to the top echelons of the sport.

The majority of the money being spent is by wealthy business owners, heads of states or from stables or agents based in jurisdictions where the racing business model is thriving.

Add on top of this the benefits of a strong dollar to almost every other currency and hey presto, you get fireworks.

We are experiencing a mega inflationary period across the globe, I don’t need to tell you that.

Who benefits from that?

The people who own the assets that are being inflated in value. They actually have the problem of where to spend their money i.e. not give it to the tax man. So why not go one or two more bids, better than giving it to Liz Truss and her Chancellor (former).

The battle to buy horses in Tattersalls over the last couple of weeks has been insanely intense. Chatting to friends who sold and consigned horses there, they have never experienced such activity on the sales ground.

This is sum positive for the game, but unfortuanley, reading the sales reports, it’s disappointing to see a plethora of horses bought in mind to ship abroad once they get a gauge on the horse’s ability.

Catch up on all the sales news through the Racing Post here.

The major European yearling sales are now complete. There are a few more opportunities for people to sell yearlings but these sales are like consolation sales. Opportunities to sell yearlings that may have got an unlucky niggle during prep and had to miss their sales engagement.

Breeders Cup Party

Last year we held a party to watch the Breeders Cup in London.

We will be doing the same this year.

Venue will be confirmed during the week, including all the gritty details.

We had an absolute blast last year and would love to meet you there.

If you are interested in coming along be sure to bring friends, hit me up with an email to signal your interest, please include a rough idea of numbers.

This week coming…

  • Verity Futurity Trophy - Doncaster

  • Munster National - Limerick

  • Arqana October yearling sale
