Here are three points on the business of horse racing, bloodstock and sports that I found interesting reading this week.
5000€ Racehorse to 500,000€?
Where would you see such an inflation in value? Logo Hunter wins at the weekend and the rumours are the horse will be sold for upwards of half a million. This horse was picked up at the horses in training (HIT) sales in the Autumn. We will be active at all HIT sales for the rest of the year aiming to purchase a horse for the syndicate. It’s tricky, you need numbers, patience and the stubborn will to wait for tail events. But they do happen.
See this article below, it describes the business model of racehorses in a general context. Tail events!!
What’s your Dying Wish?

A sad yet compelling story. A avid racing fan had a dying wish, it was to go racing!
The Story of the Suffragette at the Derby.
https://www.theguardian.com/society/2013/may/26/emily-davison-suffragette-death-derby-1913
I found this article from 2013 on this bizarre incident from 1913. Emily Davison died for the cause of women’s voting rights. She got ran over by a horse during the Derby. How would she feel about the achievements of Hollie Doyle and Rachael Blackmore today?
Charlie talks…
This weekend sees Classic action in Ireland as the 1000 and 2000 Guineas take place at the Curragh.
The colts race looks wide open as there doesn't look to be a standout 3 yr old miler yet. Add into the mix the prospect of tough conditions and you can see this turning into a real stamina test. Jim Bolger still has Mac Swiney entered who up until his last start was being talked up as his main Epsom Derby contender. He got put in his place behind Balshoi Ballet in that Derby trial and that may have forced a rethink. If he was to turn up here the conditions should help bring his stamina into play and see him tough to beat.
Sunday sees the fillies take centre stage. One horse I'm looking forward to seeing back on track is Pretty Gorgeous. She hasn't had an ideal start to the season as she missed Newmarket due to a bad scope but is reported in good health now. Pretty Gorgeous has handled conditions in the past and could be an exciting filly for the rest of the season.
As a betting prospect Independent Missy for local Curragh trainer Tracy Collins looks interesting in the 6 furlong Betway handicap on Saturday. Really heavy ground might be a slight worry but she seems to handle all types of terrain. She looks like an improving sprinter who is competitively handicapped on the pick of her form.Interest would be heightened if as expected crack 5lb claimer Joey Sheridan is booked to ride.
