BBT Digest
Here are three points on the business of horse racing, bloodstock and sports that I found interesting reading this week.
The Business of making Stallions with John Sikura.
A fantastic piece on life within the bloodstock industry. Taking risks and backing your judgment. Sikura is a colourful character. This is a MUST READ for everyone.

Thomas talks…People in Racing
With The Land Rover Store sale being the focus of buyers this week, we delve into the pair who bought the top lot for €230,000. Read about it here.
Name: Noel & Valerie Moran
Age: 50 & 44 respectively.
Occupation : Banking and Finance
Net worth: €270 million
Noel and Valerie Moran have been at the top of many high profile NH bloodstock sales recently. The sale of their company, Prepaid Financial Services for €266 million, has given them the ammunition to do this.
Read here about their record breaking acquisition of phenomenal mare Apples Jade for €530,000.
Horse: Zanahiyr
Sire: Nathaniel
Form: Won Grade 2 Juvenile Hurdle
Entries: Top Level Chases next season
Earnings: £67,361
Forging a strong relationship with maestro Gordon Elliot and former Gigginstown Racing manager Eddie O’ Leary. The Morans have the right people to advise them successfully. They are new into the game and have made it clear they want to compete at the top table, their spending habits more than backed that statement up.
Horse: Queens Brook
Sire: Shirrocco
Form: 3rd In Cheltenham Bumper
Entries: Top level mares races
Earnings: £31,695
With a desire to be involved in the whole journey of bloodstock to racehorses. The Moran’s acquired Bective Stud, Co. Meath. A long term vision is certainly in place and will no doubt come to fruition sooner rather than later, read an in depth interview here.
Charlie talks…
A notable drop in class this weekend as the industry prepares for a week of top class racing from Royal Ascot.
York races Friday, the highlight being the the listed Sky Bet Ganton stakes. However, Shawaamekh is potentially the most interesting entry on the card for me running in the 4.35 7 furlong handicap. He suffered a little last year due to a high handicap mark however is now 2lbs below his last winning mark and only 3lbs higher than when convincingly winning over course and distance in 2019. This race doesn't look to have many progressive looking types in it and he should go close if running to his mark.
Dubai Instinct runs in the final race on the card at York on Friday. He is another who looks interesting for Michael and David Easterby. He has shaped well in two runs at the track this year and this looks like an easier opportunity for him to get his head back in front.
Ey Up It’s Maggie runs on Saturday at York in a 6 furlong handicap and looks to be well placed by trainer Tony Coyle. This is a competitive race for the grade but the selection is on an upward curve and gets in here off a light weight.
We great success last week. Tipping up Mojo Star at a big price in the Derby. Several of you sent a thank you email back. The best way to thank us is to share this newsletter with your friends or whoever would enjoy reading it.
