Trade strong at Tattersalls as Book 1 concludes
As we draw a close to Book 1 at bloodstock HQ in Tattersalls, there was a number of interesting points to note:
Around 50 yearlings were purchased over the three days of Book 1 to go to America. First-season sire Cracksman had six yearlings sell for 989,000, headed by a 410,000gns filly who was an excellent pinhook for Brendan Holland, who bought her for 95,000gns as a foal.
Saxon Warrior was the leading first-season sire with three or more sold, his seven averaging 176,714gns.
Galileo was leading sire by average with 11 sold for an average of 557,727gns. His brother Sea The Stars, however, had Book 1 top-priced colt and filly.
Dubawi's 14 lots sold averaged 498,929gns, while Frankel had 16 sell for an average of 373,438gns.
For the fourth year in a row, and six of the past nine, Newsells Park Stud was leading vendor at Book 1, with 22 sold for 10,785,000gns.
With Sheikh Mohammed present, Godolphin was leading buyer with 15 purchased for 9,375,000gns.

Charlie talks…Weekend Racing
The Dewhurst stakes is the main event of the weekend. While only 8 runners go to post make no mistake this looks a well contested race. The Godolphin operation supply the short priced favourite in Native Trail who has oozed class so far in winning his 3 starts. As it stands he is the only runner in the field with a Group 1 win and that will count for plenty. However Straight Answer for the Ger Lyons team is the other runner who has yet to taste defeat. While he has to step up to this level and prove himself he looks the one to follow here after a bloodless win on his latest start.
The card starts with a tough looking nursery at 1.10pm however I thought Exminster looked interesting here at the bottom of the weights he is 8lbs better off with Outgate after their latest clash and was quite slow away that day and did his best work at the finish. Once breaking better here the swing at the weights should help him turn that form around and go close.
Hafit will be short a price to win the Zetland stakes at 1.45pm but should be hard to beat and is worth supporting.
The Cesarewitch is a difficult looking puzzle as always. Goobinator is the one I landed on. He brings a progressive profile into the race and should have plenty of improvement to come. It’s highly competitive though and Willie Mullins will no doubt play a part in the finish with some of his runners too.
Horses to follow:
Goobinator 3.35 - Newmarket - Saturday
Striaght Answer 2.55 - Newmarket - Saturday
Exminster 1.10 - Newmarket - Saturday
